The majority of major medical health insurance policies now exclude treatment of medical complications if those complications are a result of an elective aesthetic surgical procedure. The Aesthetic Surgeons’ Financial Group (ASFG) developed a program called CosmetAssure in order to address the issue of a lack of coverage for medical expenses due to medical complications arising from elective aesthetic surgical procedures.
CosmetAssure is an affordable solution to the risk of complications that can occur following elective aesthetic procedures. CosmetAssure is endorsed by the prestigious American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and is exclusively available to Active members and Candidate Members (once the written portion of the Plastic Surgery Board Exam has been passed) of the ASPS. Once a physician becomes active in the CosmetAssure program, all of his/her patients having one or more of the 17 Covered Procedures must be registered. Once a patient is registered, they will then receive Benefits should a Covered Complication occur as defined in the Qualifying Admissions section of this website.
In order for patients to receive Benefits in the event of a Covered Complication, not only must they be registered through their Participating Physician, but they must be admitted to a Hospital, Emergency Room, or an Accredited Surgical Center within 30 days of the Cover Procedure(s). In addition, admission must be pursuant to one of the approved Admitting Diagnoses. The 30 day period, also known as the Incurral Period, begins immediately following the administration of general anesthesia or IV sedation on the patient’s day of surgery.
Without CosmetAssure, patients and surgeons may be left with a financial burden should a complication arise after elective aesthetic surgery. With CosmetAssure the patient and the surgeon have the opportunity to focus on the surgery rather than worrying about the adverse economic impact of possible complications. In order to accommodate the vast consumer and physician interest in this product, a Details for Patients page as well as a Details for Physicians page can be accessed on this website.
